Old Delhi – The 350 year old walled city was built by Emperor Shah Jehan in 1648 as his capital. Opposite the fort are the black and white onion domes and minarets of the Jama Masjid, one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in India. Raj Ghat is worth a visit where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in 1948.

New Delhi – It is the name of the new capital designed by Sir Edward Lutyens. One of the great joys here is taking a ride that passes through the impressive Rajpath, famous for the India Gate dedicated to the martyrs of World War I. You will also get to see the magnificent Presidential Palace. Other famous historical sites which you will visit are Humayun’s Tomb built in 1565 AD, Sadarjung’s Tomb, Qutub Minar and the Iron Pillar, which still has historians, metallurgists and laymen.

Start your morning with a healthy breakfast and then proceed towards a sightseeing tour of Delhi. Delhi, the capital of India, is a bustling metropolis, which successfully combines in its folds the ancient with modern. Its strategic location was the prime reason why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. In fact, it is believed to be home to some mythological cities. An example of this is Indraprastha, (which is mentioned in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata), which is believed to have been founded around 5,000 BC. It was on this very spot that numerous monuments were built over the years by rulers like Qutub-ud-din Aibek, Alauddin Khilji, Tughlaks, Humayun & Shah Jahan, who built the walled city known as Shahjahanabad.

Later in the first half of the 20th century much of New Delhi was planned by Sir Edwin Lutyens, who laid out a grandiose central administrative area as a testament to British rule in India. The division in walled city and New Delhi also marks the division in life styles.

In the afternoon, set off for a drive to Agra. After arriving, complete your check in formalities.
Stay overnight at the hotel.

You will be visiting the Taj Mahal in the early hours of the morning (it should be remembered that the Taj Mahal is closed on Friday). After that, proceed for city sightseeing tour of Agra including Sikandra, Akbar’s tomb. His son, Jahangir, completed the construction of the tomb in the year 1613. Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb, which was built by Nur Jahan (the wife of Jahangir) between 1622 and 1628, is another major tourist attraction. She dedicated the construction of the monument to her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg, who was originally a Persian Amir in exile. He was honoured with the title Itimad-ud-Daulah, which means, the pillar of the state. Mirza Ghiyas Beg was also the grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal (wife of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan). This splendid structure is fondly known as Baccha Taj since it served as the inspiration for it. In fact, the architectural style adopted by it was later to be adopted by other structures as well. One of the most famous attractions of the structure is the dome, which is dominated by elements of Persian architecture.

In the morning after breakfast, you will head out for an excursion to the Bandhavgarh Fort. This fort is in ruins now but the strong high walls of the fort tell a saga of valour and splendour. Although no one knows the exact date of the construction of the fort, some people believe that the fort has been mentioned in the Shiv Purana (one of the holy scriptures in Hinduism), and is estimated to be about 2,000 years old. The park holds an important historical significance. The signs of early habitation can be seen in the caves excavated from the cliffs to the north of the fort. Brahmi inscriptions have also been found inside the fort, and they are believed to go back to the 1st century BC..
